There are three ways for school districts and organizations working with school districts in Wisconsin to access Preschool Options training and information.
- Preschool Options Project Presentation
Time required: 2 hours
Preschool Options Project is a continuation of a research-based grant conducted in Wisconsin to determine the effectiveness of a variety of services provided to young children with disabilities. The presentation takes the data gathered from this research and assists local school districts and community-based programs with the requirement that all districts provide a continuum of program options for preschool children identified with disabilities. Developing and implementing this range of options is a challenge given that each district may have different natural environments to consider in developing their range of services.
Participants will:
- Understand data regarding Wisconsin's child count for preschool service settings
- List examples of preschool options in Wisconsin
- Discuss benefits of utilizing natural environments for all children
- Name evaluation tools to assess and improve preschool programs
- Describe methods and supports available to assist districts and community based programs in developing a range of options
- The Link: Preschool Service Options & Individual Education
Programs
Time required: 1 or 2 days
This session is designed to assist educators and administrators to consider a range of program options for young children with disabilities. Participants will be actively involved in discussion and decision-making throughout the workshop.
The goals of the workshop are to:
- Provide opportunities for active involvement in using the IEP process to determine program options
- Learn how to develop functional goals and objectives that will be used for determining options and for classroom implementation
- Discuss how Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) relates to making decisions for placement of preschool children
- Learn about types/models of program options available for young children with disabilities
- Review current placements of children to determine if other options might be considered
- Consider barriers/solutions related to establishing program options
- Technical Assistance for Local Districts
Time required: as needed
Local districts may request technical assistance specific to their needs. Preschool Options training staff can come to the district and facilitate discussion and problem solving about development and implementation of a range of service options for young children with disabilities. Goals and outcomes will be unique to the district requesting support.
